Israel Continues Its Criminal War on the Truth: Targeting Journalists Is a War Crime

Statement of Condemnation – International Union of Journalists and Writers

We, at the International Union of Journalists and Writers, together with journalists, human rights advocates, and media professionals around the world, strongly condemn the heinous crime committed by the Israeli occupation forces at the Nasser Medical Complex, which resulted in the killing of four journalists while performing their professional duty.

Targeting journalists in the course of their work constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and of all international conventions and treaties that guarantee the protection of journalists and the freedom of the press.

The crimes of the occupation have surpassed all norms, as human rights reports have documented that the Israeli army has deliberately killed more than 245 journalists since the beginning of the aggression, in a clear attempt to silence the truth and block the image from reaching the world.

Our Demands

We call on the international community, United Nations institutions, and international organizations concerned with press freedom and human rights to urgently and immediately intervene to put an end to these ongoing crimes.

We demand accountability for the occupation’s crimes against journalists, as they are war crimes that do not lapse with time.

We affirm the sacred right of journalists to carry out their professional duty in freedom and safety, as they are the witnesses of truth and the voice of the people.
