In modern history, the world has never witnessed a systematic targeting of journalists and media professionals like what is happening today in Palestine, where Palestinian journalists have become direct military targets for the Israeli occupation army. No longer does a journalist wear a helmet and protective vest to shield themselves from stray bullets or random shelling—they now stand in the crosshairs of snipers who know exactly who they are targeting, and exactly where to strike to take a life.

Killing the Truth Before Killing the Human

The Palestinian journalist carries no weapon but the camera, and fights only with words and images. Yet in the eyes of Israel’s killing machine, this is more dangerous than bullets. Images expose, words reveal, and the truth dismantles the webs of deception the occupation seeks to weave before the world. Targeting journalists, therefore, is part of a broader plan: to hide crimes by silencing the witnesses.

Bloody Numbers and Documented Crimes

Since the onset of the latest aggression on Gaza, international human rights organizations have documented the killing of 237 Palestinian journalists—a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, which mandates the protection of journalists in conflict zones. These numbers are not mere statistics; they are faces, names, and dreams cut short. They are cameras silenced, and notebooks scattered amid the rubble.

A Fully Fledged War Crime

Targeting journalists is classified under international law as a war crime—an outright violation of the Geneva Conventions and of protections afforded to media workers. Yet the occupation commits this crime in cold blood, shielded by a suspicious international silence and the complicity of certain major powers that turn a blind eye to crimes documented in sound and image. This silence does not just protect the killers—it gives them the green light to commit the crime again, making shame fall upon all who choose to remain silent.

International Federation of Journalists and Writers: A Voice That Will Not Break

The International Federation of Journalists and Writers, alongside all free people of the world, will remain the guardians of truth, defending the human right to access information and the Palestinian people’s right to tell their own story to the world. Journalism is not a crime, photography is not a threat, and the truth will never be buried, no matter how fierce the repression.

A Message to the World

Every bullet fired at a Palestinian journalist is an attempt to assassinate global human awareness. Every moment of silence in the face of these crimes is implicit participation in prolonging the occupation and its atrocities. If the international community truly believes in press freedom and human rights, it must act immediately to hold the killers accountable and to ensure the protection of journalists in Palestine and all conflict zones.
